One Simple Trick to Get Energized AND Focused Now

Posted on January 31, 2012

It’s easy to get overwhelmed. Three emails in your inbox quickly turn into three hundred, and each one has an action item that needs to be put on your to-do list. Before you know it, you just want to throw your computer out the window and crawl into bed. While that might sound nice, there’s really no need to be so dramatic. With one simple trick, you can get yourself from exhausted and frazzled to energized and focused.

  • Sit down.
  • Close your eyes. (Don’t worry; I’m not going to tell you to meditate or come up with a mantra.)
  • Start thinking about your biggest goal. (Lose 10 pounds. Write a book. Get 15 paying clients.)
  • Come up with a few action steps that will get you to that goal. (Go for run. Sit down and write for just 15 minutes. Send out a few tweets about your latest product or service.) It’s fine to start with a few big long-term steps, but you ultimately want to come up with a few items that you can do right now.
  • Now picture your big goal being completed. (This is where the energy comes from. Visualizing your success will make you feel excited and ready to get started.)
  • Finally, return to the action steps you came up with earlier. Your new energized state of mind will make all of them seem doable, now that you realize they will help you achieve that wonderful feeling of success.
  • Open those eyes and take action!

Do it now and let me know how it goes. What action steps did you complete right after opening your eyes? Yes, I really want to know. Send me an email (sdesilva@solutiongarden.com) as soon as those items are complete. How’s that list Marinda? Make sure to keep moving with the actual writing after you list is finished!

Oh wow, how’s that for a firm kick in the butt! I’m going to use this to get back into blogging regularly. It was going well for a couple of months, but lately I’ve been running out of ideas. So my action plan is to make a list of things I’ve been meaning to post about. Then I’m going to schedule in time to do it. So excuse me while I go and put pen to paper… Thanks for this!

Boy, the past couple of weeks I’ve been sick with a nasty sinus cold. And so my inbox got so out of control. Just yesterday as I was going through the emails I really just wanted to crawl into bed instead of working through my inbox!..LOL I love the simplicity of this excercise and I will be using it for sure as I embark on a few changes in our businesses. Great post! xo, Yvette
